Candidate for Lititz Borough Council - First Ward

Meet Mary Gattis

My Story

For the past 30 plus years, Mary has been a tireless advocate for the communities where she’s lived, often working at the forefront of issues affecting people’s daily lives and the planet.  Through her work in the private, public and non-profit sectors, she has learned how institutions work, and seen how they can work better! Her passion for effective governance is rooted in her deep commitment to justice.

Mary has served on numerous boards and commissions, including several years on the Lititz Borough Planning Commission.

As an Environmental Planner with the Lancaster County Planning Department (2001-2013), Mary helped communities turn abandoned and blighted properties back to productive use while ensuring that environmental risks were mitigated.  She secured state and federal funds to help communities throughout the county address flooding and protect local waterways.  And, she implemented programs to address energy efficiency. She currently owns a consulting business devoted to serving municipal clients.

When not working, Mary enjoys reading, cooking, gardening, hiking, kayaking, and working on her c. 1860 home where she lives with her mate, J.C., and their 5 pets.

My Guiding Principles

Mary believes:

  • that communities benefit when many and diverse voices come together to help shape a future for all.

  • that care and repair of the environment goes hand in hand with development that serves the needs of the community, and that this is the fiscally responsible approach to governing.

  • in authentic community engagement and transparency in government.

  • in honoring the past, while embracing the future.
